<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Calcific aortic stenosis is the most common valvular heart disease. The pathogenesis of this disease is complex and resembles the atherosclerotic process in the blood vessels. It is known that valvular interstitial cell activation and subsequent differentiation into osteoblast- and myofibroblast-like cells is the main driving force of fibrous and calcified aortic valve tissue. However, the molecular mechanisms behind these processes are still not fully understood. Current information on this issue is collected and analyzed in this article. The main molecular pathways mediating the pathological differentiation of the valvular interstitial cells and the reasons for their activation are considered.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>аортальный стеноз</kwd><kwd>клетки</kwd><kwd>сигнальные пути</kwd><kwd>дифференцировка</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>aortic stenosis</kwd><kwd>cells</kwd><kwd>signaling pathways</kwd><kwd>cellular differentiation</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Работа выполнена в рамках комплексной программы фундаментальных научных исследований СО РАН по фундаментальной теме НИИ КПССЗ № 0546-2015-0011 «Патогенетическое обоснование разработки имплантатов для сердечно-сосудистой хирургии на основе биосовместимых материалов, с реализацией пациент-ориентированного подхода с использованием математического моделирования, тканевой инженерии и геномных предикторов».</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Lindman B.R., Clavel M.A., Mathieu P., Iung B., Lancellotti P., Otto C.M. et al.
